Jon is runnning an Olympic sailing campaign for the 2012 Olympics based at wpnsa, home of the 2012 games. He funds himself through coaching, and is a RYA class racing coach. In 2007 Jon coached the Swiss Radial team for Palma, Hyeres and Holland regattas and finally at the ISAF World Championships where they gained a place for the 2008 Olympics. He is also training officer for the UKLA (the UK Laser class association). Jon writes for Dinghy Sailing Magazine, Yachts and Yachting, Seahorse and The Daily Sail.
Jon also works as a freelance coach and charges £250 a day. He does a lot of his one:one work out of WPNSA (see the above below) but also travels extensively.

He coaches all abilities from first time
racers to Olympic hopefuls, providing everything from one to one
training to public speaking for large groups. Jon is the Swiss Sailing Team Laser Radial coach and works as a training partner for Olympic sailors. He does this to fund his Olympic sailing campaign. Examples of training
offered:
1. One to one coaching: Jon sails with you (crewed boat)
or against you (single handed boat) to help improve body kinetics,
wave technique, typically spending the day addressing boat speed or boat
handling issues. Jon can come to you at your home club (you pay travelling expenses) or you can come to him at WPNSA (he pays your launching fee).
2. Group training: Jon works from a RIB (which needs to be provided by the host club) filming exercises and
short races. Then there is a video debrief so the sailors can see
what Jon sees and ask questions. Sailors are given a DVD to take
home with them.
3. Evening talk £125. Jon talks to a packed club house
on a topic of their choice, popular examples: Rules, Tactics and
Strategy, Diet and Fitness.

UKLA Training
Jon is the training officer for the UKLA. Laser coaching is available to all members of the UKLA (yes, the training really is open to everyone (4.7s, radials, standard rigs, from junior to great grand masters!). The training dates and contact details are outlined below, and the application forms are available from the Laser website www.laser.org.uk (events calendar). Numbers on each of these training weekends are fixed so as to ensure a good Laser sailor to coach ratio and also because safety is of key importance.
Places are given out on a first come first served basis, but if you do not manage to get a place this year the intention is to increase the number of the weekends next season if demand is high enough. If you do not manage to get on one of the regional training weekends you can always organise for a coach to come to your club. This will be a Laser specialist coach (usually a top Laser sailor) for just £150 per day, which for a small group usually works out at £10 to £15 per head. You do however need to provide a support boat for the coach to use.
If you have any suggestions for Laser training please give me a call on 07748 902679 or email me at jon@jonemmettsailing.co.uk
I am always keen to improve the standard of Laser training.
